All About Me
Hello! My name is Tracy James and I am thrilled to be sharing my love of learning with my students again this year!
The joys of my life are being the mother of a 6th grade Dragon, an "Auntie" to my beautiful niece, and playing the flute as a member of my church praise team.
I love to travel...anywhere! Outside of the US, I have been to Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean and I hope in the next 10 years to find my way to Hawaii. Inside the US, my favorite spots are Disney, Gatlinburg, Nashville, St. Louis, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Gulf Shores...oh the list goes on! I rarely sit on the beach though...my vacations are usually a marathon that require a few days to recover from when we get home!
My favorite pastimes are spending time with Grant, going to the movies, the Orpheum, out to dinner for a girls night out/game night, Tiger football/basket ball, and finding a great deal at a yard sale!
Random favorite things...milk chocolate, Chick-fil-A diet lemonade, Tervis tumblers, the Blue Angels, my smartphone, DVR--Big Brother/Dancing with the Stars, and afternoon naps!
My Education and Teaching Experience
Having always loved science and NASA, I thought I was going into the Air Force ROTC to fly jets but found my calling at Middle TN State University in the Music Education Department. I ended up with an undergraduate degree in Music Education K-12 and a General Ed Add-On Endorsement. I taught music in the Shelby County System as an Orff teacher for 7 years before resigning to stay home with Grant. While out, I added my Kindermusik License, teaching newborns-8yrs and training teachers throughout the Memphis area for 6 years. Returning to work when Grant went to Knd, I just couldn't sing the Isty Bitsy Spider ever again...so I added my Master's Degree in Educational Theory from Arkansas State University. Two years ago, I completed my LAST round of school adding my +45 in Administration and Leadership through Christian Brothers University. Writing research papers has finally been replaced with playing LEGOs, grading papers, and taking naps! This will be my 6th year at Tara Oaks but it will be my second year teaching in the 2nd grade.
