About Mrs. Millikin
I LOVE being a Tara Oaks Tiger! This Is my 6th year to share music with TOES musicians!
I moved to Collierville in 2010 shortly after marrying my husband, Brian. I have two beautiful children, Maddie and Bryson, and two sweet puppies, Rory and Daisy.
I am originally from Marion, Arkansas where I attended Marion High School. I attended the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas where I received my Bachelors of Music in Education and my Masters of Music in Instrumental Conducting. I was active in the marching band where I served as the Drum Major of The Bear Marching Band for 4 years. I studied French Horn while there and I also played in the Wind Ensemble and the Conway Symphony Orchestra. I still play my French Horn has much as I can, especially in my church orchestra!
I started my career as a middle school band director in Forrest City, Arkansas in 2006. I went back to school full time to obtain my masters degree. After that, I spent a year teaching middle school and high school band in Olive Branch, Mississippi. I began teaching at the elementary level in 2011 in the Memphis City schools where I was placed at Larose Elementary and Bruce Elementary. I served at these schools for two years. I then went to Riverwood Elementary and taught there for three years where I was over the 2nd and 3rd grade choir and the Riverwood Guitar Club.
I come from a musical family where my father is a well known band director and my mom a prominent Orff music teacher in the Memphis City Schools. They both are retired now and love being grandparents. I have two sisters, my oldest is an interventionist in middle Tennessee and my twin sister teaches music as well in Little Rock, Arkansas.
I have completed all levels of my American Orff Schulwerk certification. If you want to know more about Orff Schulwerk and how I use it my classroom, click the link on my page for more information!
My passion when teaching is giving kids great musical and worthwhile experiences so that i may create a foundation for music appreciation and understanding at an early age!
