Lindsey Heritage » Home

Hi! My name is Lindsey Heritage, and I am the Interventionist/Read to be Ready District Coach for Tara Oaks Elementary School. My role is to support the teachers in helping students meet their Reading goals. I will be working with groups of students from Kinder-5th grade, for an hour at a time, each day. I will be utilizing many programs to meet the student's needs this year such as Brigance Reading, Great Leaps Reading, and Leveled Literacy Instruction: Fountas and Pinnell, as well as numerous manipulatives, board games, and computer games. I also love to involve technology into my program as much as possible. Some apps that I'm going to be incorporating this year are SeeSaw and Flipgrid.
As well as being the Reading Interventionist for Tara Oaks Elementary, I am also one of the 5 district coaches for Read to be Ready in Collierville. This new Reading incentive's goal is to see that 43% of students who are reading on grade level in 3rd grade, move to 75% by 2025. In this added role, I have the opportunity to assist teachers in K-3 with lesson planning, co-teaching, and mentoring. Read to be Ready includes Interactive Read Alouds, Shared Reading, Guided Reading, and Independent Reading. Complex texts that are 1-2 grade levels above the child's current grade level are utilized to increase vocabulary and comprehension awareness to every child in the classroom, no matter the ability level. Finally, students work on Daily and Culminating tasks where they have the opportunity to write about their reading, and do projects over the books that they have read.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Texas A&M University, and a Master's Degree in Administration from Concordia University. I am certified in both ESL and Gifted/Talented Education. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade over my 14 years of experience teaching.
I have been married to my husband, Ryan, for 9 years, and am the mother to three beautiful girls. Bella is 8 in Third Grade here at Tara Oaks, Randi is 5 in Kindergarten here, and Piper is 2. I am extremely excited to start my fourth year at Tara Oaks, and can't wait to watch the student's grow in their love of reading! Please reach out to me if you have any questions at all! Happy Trails!

Recent Posts is a great website where you and your child can create a profile to keep track of the books that they have read. After completing a book, your child can give the book a rating of how well they liked it. The website keeps track of the books that you liked, and didn't like, then gives you suggestions of books that you may want to read. There is also a section where you can keep track of books that you'd like to read in the future based off of their suggestions. Once you get into it, you can start adding friends, and finding out what they are reading, and their thoughts on their books as well. It's like a Facebook for BOOKS!!!

Collierville School Interventionists went to a Read to be Ready Conference in Knoxville last week to learn how to incorporate this new Reading Incentive into our schools. We are excited to help our students be able to reach their highest reading potential with the tools that we've learned!
Tara Oaks Elementary is now incorporating the SeeSaw app into our classrooms! I have had so much fun taking pictures and videos of my students as they work on the computer, work in partner groups, and read independently.
Watch for your child's QR code to come home that will allow you access to your child's personal SeeSaw account. The setup is similar to having a Facebook account, in that you can "like" or comment on the pictures. The difference is that it is only able to be viewed by you. You are even able to receive notices on your phone when your child has posted a picture, video, etc to the app! How fun would that be to be able to see your child working hard at school, while you are at work?!?

Reading Parent Resource Packet

If you are looking for ideas on how to help your child with their Reading Fluency, Vocabulary, or Comprehension skills, please visit our Tara Oaks Elementary webpage. Under the Parent section, click "Reading Parent Resource Packet." This packet is specifically designed with these skills in mind! There are games to play, websites to visit, and activities to do at home to enhance these skills. Happy Reading!

Use this site to find Fiction and Nonfiction Comprehension questions to ask your child, after they read their Take-Home Reader to you! Simply pick a few a night to ask them after they read the book to you. These questions are very similar to what they will see on their Weekly Progress Monitoring Comprehension tests.
The Collierville Schools Interventionists are being trained to become Read to be Ready Coaches for the Department of Education in Tennessee. We are very excited to embark on this new journey, and learn what all this will entail, and how to make it the most beneficial program for our schools. We spent 1 day in Jackson, 2 days in Nashville, and will be headed to Knoxville at the end of September to attend a 3 day training on the program. We have learned so much already, and can't wait to bring the information to our schools!
Welcome to my new Interventionist Assistant, Amanda Ugarte! Mrs. Amanda comes from Texas as well! She is married, with a 6-year old daughter, Ella, who is in 1st grade here at Tara Oaks, and has another baby girl, Mia, on the way! She has her Education degree with a major in Bilingual studies from the University of Texas in Arlington. She is certified to teach Early Childhood through 6th grade. She is fluent in Spanish, and taught bilingual Pre-K in Texas for 2 years. She has even worked with our Leveled Literacy program, Fountas & Pinnell, in college! This is her 3rd year teaching, and she is so excited to begin this new adventure. We are very excited to have her!
