The Tara Oaks Elementary School AgriSTEM program was recently awarded a $5,000 TVA grant to support their Crops to Careers initiative. Students will gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture while exploring careers associated with growing food crops. The grant will be used to purchase drones, soil testing kits, soil amendments, solar energy and windmill kits. These materials will be used to monitor plant health, map out optimal planting areas, analyze soil conditions, determine amendments needed and learn how to use natural resources to supplement energy needs. As a part of this initiative, students will also be connecting with community partners to learn about career fields such a renewable energy engineering, environmental science, agronomy and agricultural technology.
